Jokirannan Tila

The country home Jokirannan Tila is on the Turku-Pori road, highway number 8, half an hour north of Turku. On the estate is a brook with sparkling clean water, the river Laajoki. The old farm house stands in an idyllic yard boasting a 170 year old sauna. A path follows the brook through the forest to sites for celebrations and feasts and where a house from the Stone Age has been reconstructed. The forest is meant for strolling in and sharing the natural peace with many species of animals.

History of Jokirannan Tila

Jokirannan Tila has a rich history. After the ice receded, it was a coastal peninsula with stone age inhabitants five thousand years ago. Jokirannan Tila is mentioned specifically for the first time on three hundred year old maps, but as mentioned, the area has probably always been inhabited. The main house was built in 1850 and our attractive Bed & Breakfast guest rooms are located in the loft of a refurbished animal shelter, originally built in 1934. Other interesting details of Jokirannan Tila’s colourful history include events from the time of Prohibition 1919-1932, with stories of bootlegging and moonshine caches.

Jokiranta was opened to visitors in 1996 and the present owners Heidi ja Mikko Kannisto took over in spring 2004. They’ll make you feel very welcome.
